The number of confirmed Coronavirus positive cases in India has crossed 67,000-mark and the death toll stands at 2,206, latest data by the Union Health Ministry showed on Monday. As many as 20,917 people have been cured/discharged/migrated, it added. The number of COVID-19 cases has risen sharply across the country in the last few days.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a video meeting with the chief ministers of various states to discuss the situation and decide the way forward after May 17, the day when the lockdown 3.0 is scheduled to end. The Centre has already made it clear that the lifting of lockdown will be done in a phased manner. Meanwhile, then Indian Railways has announced to restart passenger train services from May 12. Ticket bookings for a limited number of trains can only be done via the IRCTC website or mobile app starting Monday, May 11.Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi have seen the largest increase in cases among the top ten states with the majority of cases over the last seven days and similarly account for 44 per cent of all new active cases. Fatalities in West Bengal, Gujarat, and Rajasthan have surged the most over the same period. Over the past seven days, these three states account for 34 per cent of all COVID-19 related deaths.
